Did LaMelo Ball deserve all that attention? / Player Deep Dive
Love him or hate him, you could argue that aside from Zion Williamson, LaMelo Ball is probably the most famous player of this mixtape era. If he were just some kid out in California throwing no-look passes and shooting wild, contested 35-footers, it'd probably be different. But LaMelo was born the son of LaVar Ball, an insistent promoter who burst on the scene in 2016 to let us know how remarkable he and his sons are.

Cade Cunningham Could Be the NBA's Next Pick-and-Roll Wizard
Просмотров 102 тыс.5 лет назад
As a primary ball handler and facilitator, Cade has a unique build. You'll see him listed at either 6'6" or 6'7", depending on the source, and he's also had his wingspan measured at seven feet. That’s a significant plus wingspan for his player type. Cunningham's not the type of quick-twitch athlete that makes you rewind the tape over and over, but for Cade's size, he's an intriguing blend of lo...
Blue Chips is Wildly Underrated
Просмотров 33 тыс.5 лет назад
(I noticed that I spelled "Dakich" incorrectly. Whooooooops.) On February 18th, 1994, just a few weeks before the NCAA Tournament, Paramount Pictures released a somewhat legendary movie called Blue Chips. It melded the tradition and passion for basketball in the state of Indiana, the excitement of discovering the next great players, and the sizzle of the forbidden, in the form of scandal. The f...
The Earthquake Game: Inside One of the Craziest Nights in NBA History (Zion, Kawhi, Paul George)

Las Vegas is buzzing. This is the first night of Las Vegas Summer League, an event where the entire NBA comes for a few days to a place where man has constructed a city in defiance of God and take in some meaningless basketball. Absurd conclusions will be made. Imaginations will be titillated. Alcohol will be guzzled. Money will be wasted. Follow me on Twitter and we can shoot the shit about pl...
Decoding the Dazzling Darius Garland - Player Breakdown / Scouting Reel
Просмотров 120 тыс.5 лет назад
Darius Garland is a creative, thrilling 6-2, and 175-pound guard originally from Gary, Indiana. He spent a short season of college basketball at Vanderbilt for Bryce Drew, the man who always looks like he’s getting ready to take an offering, hold the hands of an older lady, thank her for her green bean casserole and pray. Might be a good career path for him now that’s he’s been fired. I KID! (I...
The Far-Reaching Talents of Bol Bol - Player Breakdown / Scouting Reel
Просмотров 157 тыс.5 лет назад
Things were different on November 16th, 1999. The NBA was still in the early steps of the post-Jordan era. Mambo #5 was the most popular song in America. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s End of Days was soaring to unseen cinematic heights. It was also the day that Bol Bol was born in the South Sudan to his legendary father, Manute. Bol is a mild-natured, 7-foot-2 and 235-pound center with soft hands and...
Expect the Spectacular: A Closer Look at Ja Morant (Player Breakdown / Scouting Reel)
Просмотров 238 тыс.5 лет назад
Temetrius Jamel Morant-or “Ja,” as you likely know him is a 6’3”, 175-pound lead guard from Dalzell, South Carolina with fluid, cat-like athleticism and a knack for creating opportunities. Every single time I say his name I think of the matchmaker lady from Mulan and say his name in that voice. Ja was very lightly recruited out of high school; he was a no-star player with only two college offer...

Hellllloooooooo internet! Hope everybody had a Happy New Year and celebrated whatever winter holiday struck their convictions most acutely. Hope everybody got to sit around and do jack shit for a while, if that’s what you’re into. Maybe you’re not into doing jack shit? Maybe you’re into constantly doing shit, and if so: for that, I commend you. I did plenty of laying around, plenty of sipping, ...
Quickness Over Thickness: Assessing the Sacramento Kings
Просмотров 147 тыс.6 лет назад
A lot has been made of the pace boom in the NBA. As we approach the first quarter mark of the season, the pace of play is the highest it’s been since the 1988-89 season, and the Kings are solidly at the forefront of the movement. They’re second currently in the league in pace of play, skyrocketing up those rankings from 30th a year ago. They’re also first overall in average cumulative team spee...
Hasty Takes: The Milwaukee Bucks - Should We Fear the Deer?
Просмотров 73 тыс.6 лет назад
If the Milwaukee Bucks are a bottle of Valentina hot sauce, this offseason they put an extra hole in their spout, and the offense is flowing now. They did this in a couple of ways. First, they signed a forward-thinking coach in Mike Budenholzer that could ease them into a modern mindset, offensively. I bounced out of bed on Tuesday morning. I could not have been more excited. I felt more or less like Michael Scott on the morning Toby left Dunder Mifflin. Let's Get Worked Up Over RJ Barrett's First Two Games

Game two of Duke’s Canadian tour pitted them against the University of Toronto, whose notable alumni includes Malcolm Gladwell. This is what happens when a couple of outliers make highlights against your alma mater, Malcolm. Statistically, it was more of the same, as RJ Barrett and Zion physically overwhelmed the collegiate Canadians while playing the most minutes and taking (again, by a lot) t...

Let’s Overreact to Zion Williamson’s First Game
Просмотров 95 тыс.6 лет назад
Well, it finally happened: we saw Zion Williamson in a Duke uniform. A year ago, if I’d said the words ‘Zion Williamson in a Duke uniform,’ it would’ve been as a joke about signs of the end times. To be so famous at such a young age and to already be lauded as one of the most explosive, unthinkably athletic humans ever to pick up a basketball, we really did not have a ton to go on in terms of r...
